I have produced a radial Analysis as part of reseach and planning for my preliminary task. I have labelled the following:
Skyline,Mast head, Button/Flash, Anchor/Model credit, cover lines/kicker, main cover line, left third, website, dateline, issue number, Barecode and price. i have created this in order to help me understand the terminology used on a magazine, and also where they are usually placed on a magaiznes front cover.
For my Preliminary I have been asked to produce a front page cover of a school/college magazine. I hope that by carrying out this preliminary I will gain skills with photography, Photoshop, publisher, as well as further knowledge about the layouts and connotations that come across and are used on a front cover. The front cover is a vital part of any magazine as it attracts the targeted audience and that audience will base their opinion on the magazine by looking at the front cover.
The requirements needed for this preliminary is a photograph of a student in a medium close up shot, as well as appropriately laid out text and maste head. This is also significant because where you place text/images/maste head on the page effects how the audience sees it and what meanings/opinions they can pick up from it. For example its common to see a magazine with a left third on the front cover, it’s used to attract the audience to that information first as people read from left to right.
My overall idea of this school magazine is current events and this particular issue will focus on a school trip to New York City. That will be the main idea of this issue, with other minor stories on the sides of the front cover. I am going for a cool, hip look for the magazine, which will be aimed at kids in upper high school/6th form of the ages of 14-18.
The purpose of this publication is to inform the audience of events, latest social news and music, which will provide an extra purpose to entertain.
If this magazine was real, I would choose for it to be distributed once a month. That way it will be packed with future /past events as well as the latest news going around the school.
