Images taken

I have taken a number of images to go on my front cover of my school magazine. These images were all taken in New York City as the magazine issue will be on a art/media trip to the big apple. The requirement for the main image is to be of a student in medium close up. These Medium close up's can strongly show the student as being the centre and subject of the overall picture, it shows her body language as well as facial expression.

Flatplans

These are examples of my flatplan planning. They represent an outline of what my magazine cover may look like. I have labelled the flatplans showing what will go where. I have also kept many features to go within the left third of the cover as well as the skyline and mast head in more or less the same positions in each plan. the main image is either going to be set as a background or just as a centre image and depending on this the cover line will go across or underneath the image.

Typeface

This is my planning of typefaces, i have looked at different styles of typefaces and connotated them in order to pick out which one is most appropriate and most effective for my magazine cover.

Names

As part of my planning, i have created a list of names for my school magazine. The image below shows potential names i have thought of.

Radial Analysis

I have produced a radial Analysis as part of reseach and planning for my preliminary task. I have labelled the following:
Skyline,Mast head, Button/Flash, Anchor/Model credit, cover lines/kicker, main cover line, left third, website, dateline, issue number, Barecode and price. i have created this in order to help me understand the terminology used on a magazine, and also where they are usually placed on a magaiznes front cover.

Introduction To Preliminary Task

For my Preliminary I have been asked to produce a front page cover of a school/college magazine. I hope that by carrying out this preliminary I will gain skills with photography, Photoshop, publisher, as well as further knowledge about the layouts and connotations that come across and are used on a front cover. The front cover is a vital part of any magazine as it attracts the targeted audience and that audience will base their opinion on the magazine by looking at the front cover.

The requirements needed for this preliminary is a photograph of a student in a medium close up shot, as well as appropriately laid out text and maste head. This is also significant because where you place text/images/maste head on the page effects how the audience sees it and what meanings/opinions they can pick up from it. For example its common to see a magazine with a left third on the front cover, it’s used to attract the audience to that information first as people read from left to right.

My overall idea of this school magazine is current events and this particular issue will focus on a school trip to New York City. That will be the main idea of this issue, with other minor stories on the sides of the front cover. I am going for a cool, hip look for the magazine, which will be aimed at kids in upper high school/6th form of the ages of 14-18.
The purpose of this publication is to inform the audience of events, latest social news and music, which will provide an extra purpose to entertain.
If this magazine was real, I would choose for it to be distributed once a month. That way it will be packed with future /past events as well as the latest news going around the school.
